Attendees at Steve Olmos Laser Course Gold Coast 2018

This past weekend we had the pleasure of hosting the Dental Laser Therapy Course with Dr Steven Olmos, a world expert and Founder of the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre International. It was a full day of learning not only about the laser and its capabilities but how it has successfully helped patients all over the world with a wide array of conditions.

We had dentists, chiropractors, and doctors from all over Australia and Indonesia in attendance who came to understand how to improve their treatment results with laser therapy.

Dr Olmos has 52 therapy centres around the world specialising in Craniofacial pain and sleep disorders. He takes a holistic approach with his patients looking at their overall well-being and identifying the underlying core problem. His practices are focused on improving the quality of life for children and adults suffering from craniofacial pain and sleep apnoea. They use the latest technological advances and provide non-surgical therapies and treatment options.

Over the last 30 years of treating thousands of patients and conducting research, he noted that nearly half of adult Americans are living with chronic pain and one quarter are at risk of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). That is an astounding number of people living with pain on a daily basis. Dr Olmos has tried many different methods of pain relief for his patients but has found LLLT the most effective. The combination of using his targeted approach to locate the underlying core issue and the MLS laser’s effective healing has brought relief and improved the health of his patients. He now uses the MLS laser with every single one of his patients.

“Most importantly it demonstrates the value of laser therapy utilising the unique delivery of Mphi laser system on healing injured nerves. This is the most remarkable tool that I have seen in my 30 years of treating chronic pain disorders.”Steve Olmos

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilises wavelengths of light that interact with tissue to accelerate the healing process. The laser stimulates the mitochondria allowing for tissue repair and producing an anti-inflammatory effect.

“Nothing treats neurological injuries like the Low Level Laser.” Steve Olmos

The therapeutic laser has replaced injections and medications used for pain relief. It is invaluable for physios, chiropractors, dentists and doctors– anyone that manipulates the human body and needs to accelerate healing.

There was some time spent focusing on how to use the laser for optimal results. The practitioner needs to understand the origin of the pain and focus the laser on that point for a set time.

As an example, Dr Olmos used the laser to stimulate an acupuncture point on our attendee Dr Daniel Hu. Dr Hu who had been struggling with chronic pain in his jaw for the last year without any resolution. This resulted in his muscles being constantly contracted and his sympathetic system working in overdrive. Over the course of the 90 seconds, we saw Dr Hu relaxing into his chair. His eyelids slowly closed, his appendages became limp, and he looked calm. After the short treatment, Dr Hu commented that “(I) hadn’t felt that calm and relaxed in so long… and no pain in my jaw!” Amazing.

“As a dental practice, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t use it on every single patient.” Steve Olmos

Dr Olmos touched on many ways of using the laser therapeutically – healing sutures faster, accelerating orthodontic movement, sport related injuries, neurological injuries, chronic and acute pain. The MLS laser is revolutionizing the medical and dentistry profession and improving patient outcomes all over the world.
